Well, again it has been a long while since my last entry. Life is going well out here at Cornell, looking forward to my senior year and moving on, but also enjoying the time I still have here. In the last few months, I have been elected Greek Council President, Treasurer of my fraternity, Webmaster for the Black Awareness Cultural Organization, Webmaster for Tri-Beta (a Biology honors society), am running for President of Hall Council (currently Secretary), was inducted into the Mortar Board (a national honors society) and running for a few positions there as well. I am still a second violin in orchestra, still taking violin lessons, still a manager at telecounseling (contacting prospective students) on campus, and a bartender down town. Finally found a place to live this summer (on campus, but rent is only $150/month)! Also looking at Grad school...considering Cornell U, Ohio State, Nebraska, Oregon State, and then of course the long shots--looking at applying for a Rhodes scholarship, and two other similar but less well known scholarships, in which case I will be in the UK for a couple of years until I get my first PhD completed. Well, got to run again...maybe once I get my computer working again I will start updating regularly. |

Well, it has been quite awhile since my last entry...always seems to be that way though. Cornell life is busy, but things are going well. Looking forward to December--I am going to an entomology conference in INdianapolis, and then a week later, flying home for Christmas--and I will be there until January 7th--I will b ehome for over two weeks this time--which makes me quite happy.
Finally finsihed up our end of the manuscript about Blepharoneura--still waiting on a professor at Ithaca and a guy at University of Iowa to finish up their parts, then we should be ready to submit it to the Biological Journal of the Linnaen Society--the oldest biological journal there is, the one Darwin was published in...I am pretty excited about that.
Have a pretty easy class this month--Physical Geology (aka Rocks for Jocks). The most difficult part is being able to identify 50 or so different rocks and minerals from memory--need to get them all by the end of the month, but at this point I have all but a few down. Other stuff is going well too--as an executive officer of Greek Council, I am glad that fall pledging went well--no major incidents, no complaints from unaffiliated students or townspeople...
Well, back to working on my presentation about meteorites... |

Well, everything is going well out here. Should be getting a cat any day now, when my friends bring her back from Chicago...this morning I woke up to a surprise--a grey and white kitten/cat outside our apartment. I am pretty sure it is our neighbors', as I have seen one that looked just like it before...but maybe not. Work is fun, watching flies and working on websites and illustrations of said flies. Not much more than that in the work world.
Went to a cool cocktail/Marja's birthday party on Friday at the Arrow house in Iowa City--lots of fun, woke up, came back to Mt. Vernon at 9AM, crashed until noon, then off to Chicago for Josh's Birthday/Graduation party. Quite fun, his family is awesome--had a keg in their backyard, went swimming, and played drinking games in the city until the wee hours of the morning. Slept, came back to Mt. Vernon again, then slept until work Monday morning. |

I haven't posted in awhile...life has been pretty busy recently, and any free time has been spent working or sleeping.
School is out in 2.5 weeks, and then some free time! Well, not really...I am working at telecounseling for a month, then doing behavioral research on fruit flies. Either way, I won't have to be in class at 9AM every day!
Also, the place I am living this summer is awesome. We got an apartment above one of the bars on 1st Ave (Heart of downtown MV), and it is only $400/month TOTAL. THat includes electric/gas, water, we get free cable, and wireless from a place next door (a coffeeshop). Granted, it is small...A long entryway/kitchenette, a small bathroom w/shower, then a room that is kinda like a den, w/wood panelling...probably about 14X13, then a bedroom that is a little bigger, probably 14X14. All in all, with three or four of us living there, it should be cheap--$400/3 people=~$133/month. That is $60 less than staying in the dorms, and we have air conditioning!
Anyway, that is the big excitement in my life right now...not much else going on. In Bio 332, PLant Systematics--a very relaxing course for me, as most of it is review--except for memorizing 100 different plants and their respective families.
Well, it is Friday night....Laters! |

So, being sick with the flu--Influenza A--is not really fun at all. I can't go to class all week, am not supposed to go to meals in the commons, and can't concentrate enoughh to do any work for class...And I am missing work as well.
On the plus side, I am getting an overdose of TV. |

[Feb. 22nd, 2006|10:30 pm] |
Hey all--I don't know if you ever have heard of them, but the band my brother works for, the Velabonz, have a chance to open for Bon Jovi at the Rose Garden....All they need to do is win this little vote thing http://www.mix1075portland.com/cooldeals/bonjovi_vote.shtml so, if you could go, vote for them--they really are pretty good--that would be awesome. Also, if you have any friends who would be willing to do the same (click on a button, enter their name and e-mail address), please tell them about it!
Thanks all! |

| | Slavonic dances | ] | I haven't updated much recently. Pretty busy here at Cornell...Working 4-5 nights a week, plus meetings on top of that, and classwork...And I joined orchestra two weeks ago, so I need to practice that music on top of the 5 hours/week of practice for my lessons. On the plus, I am having a great time, feeling great, and really enjoying it out here.
Looking forward to spring break--I will have a break of sorts, and do most of the web-design for the bio department, which I have been procrastinating about. Also, I declared my major a few weeks back. Biology major, chem. minor. However, that is under review...looking at requirements last night, I think it would be quite feasible to do a Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Environmental Studies double, with a minor in music or spanish...still need to check how the courses line up, but that would be sweet...anyway, got to go to dinner pretty quick--Laters! |

For those who aren't in Iowa, I got a haircut the other day...resulting from a bet/dare/coercion, it is a new look for me.
Pictures will be up soon... |
